How do I access the ACU VPN?

ACU's Virtual Private Network (VPN) is available to select individuals who need it to access resources needed for work being done for ACU. If you do not have access, and need it for your job, please fill out this form: VPN Access Request

We recommend being connected to the ACU VPN only when actively using ACU resources.

Client Installation and Activation

Windows

1. Go to tailscale.com/download.
2. Select 'Windows' and then click the 'Download Tailscale for Windows' button.
3. Once downloaded, run the tailscale-setup file.
4. Follow the setup steps to complete installation.
5. Find the Tailscale icon in the Windows system tray on your taskbar, right-click it, and select 'Log in...'
6. Select 'Sign in with Microsoft' in the browser window that opens.
7. Sign-in with your ACU credentials.
   • If you are already signed-in with your ACU account, this step may auto-complete.
8. Click the 'Connect' button on the screen following sign-in.
9. The Tailscale icon in your Windows system tray can now be used to connect and disconnect from the ACU VPN.
   • If disconnected, you can click the Tailscale icon to connect.
   • If connected, you can right-click the Tailscale icon, and select 'Disconnect.'

macOS

1. Launch the App Store application.
2. Search for 'Tailscale'
   • 
3. Click 'Get', then click 'Install'
4. Use your Apple ID to sign in. If the Apple ID field is pre-loaded with anything other than your Apple ID, delete it and use yours.
5. After installation, open the Tailscale application, and select 'Get Started'
6. Click 'Allow VPN Configuration' and then click 'Allow' on the pop-up that occurs.
7. Click 'Sign in to your network'
8. Select 'Sign in with Microsoft' in the browser window that opens.
9. Sign-in with your ACU credentials.
   • If you are already signed-in with your ACU account, this step may auto-complete.
10. Click the 'Connect' button on the screen following sign-in.
11. Select 'No, I will manually start Tailscale' on the application pop-up that occurs.
12. You can now find the Tailscale icon in your Mac menu bar as long as Tailscale is running.
    • From this icon, you can connect and disconnect from the ACU VPN using the toggle switch at the top.
