How do I Choose which of my Configured Multifactor Authentication Methods my Account Uses?

You can configure which method will be used as your default authentication method.

  1. Go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.
  2.  Where it says "Default sign-in method: [current sign-in method]" click Change.

  1. Click the drop-down menu and select the method you wish to use. The default authentication method is to use the free Microsoft Authenticator app (Highly recommended). It is available for iOS and Android. If you have it installed on your mobile device, select Next and follow the prompts to add this account. If you don't have it installed there is a link provided to download it. You can also simply search for it on the App Store or Google Play store by searching for "Microsoft Authenticator"

Tip: You are not locked in to the Microsoft Authenticator, you can use other apps like Google Authenticator, Duo, Aegis Authenticator, etc.

If you do not see the method you'd prefer to use, then cancel out of the prompt and click the Add method option right underneath and follow the on-screen steps on how to set up your preferred method.
