How do I prepare my account for multi-factor authentication?

You can configure the multi-factor authentication (“MFA”) options for your single sign-on account using these steps. Be aware that even after you configure your options, you may not start being prompted for them immediately. You will only actually need to use MFA after IT activates its requirement for your account. This is being done in staged rollouts over a period of months. You will receive an email notification before it is done for your account. However, you may still want to do this configuration ahead of time so that you can do so at a time that is convenient for you.

  • Browse to https://aka.ms/MFASetup and log in with your ACU email address and password.
  • If you get a message saying, “More information required,” click Next.
  • On the screen asking, “How should we contact you?” use the dropdown menu to select an authentication method.
    • The mobile app option with Receive notifications for verification is the most convenient. You can download the app for your mobile device using the links below.
    • Click the Set up button in your browser after you have installed the app on your mobile device.
    • On your mobile device, launch the Microsoft Authenticator app, tap the menu button near the top-right, and choose Add Account.
    • Choose Work or school account.
    • Point your device’s camera at the QR code in your browser. Once it has scanned, click Next in your browser, then click it again on the next screen.
    • A notification will appear on your mobile device. Tap Approve.
    • If you get a screen with the message “In case you lose access to the mobile app,” verify that the phone number is correct, then click Done.

If you would prefer to use authentication codes sent via text message, choose Authentication phone in the dropdown, and make sure that the phone number is correct.

  • Choose Send me a code by text message, and click Next.
  • Enter the code you receive on your phone and click Verify, then Done.

You are not locked into either choice. You can revisit https://aka.ms/MFASetup at any time to change or add additional authentication options.
