How do I Fix Windows Error "This App won't Run on Your PC?"

Unless you have a 32-bit operating system (hint: you don't), you are probably getting this error because Windows is running in S mode. And if you're a student at ACU, you were probably trying to install Lockdown Browser.

S mode is a restricted mode of windows that only allows a small set of apps to be installed or even to run if already present, such as Command Prompt. It is very commonly used for computers administered by schools in K-12 so that they will only run apps considered necessary for education. Which is funny, since it blocks Lockdown Browser.

Due to the many nuanced differences in Windows 11 versions, the wording of these steps may differ from your computer.

To take your computer out of S mode:

  1. Open Settings > System > Activation.
  2. In the Switch to Windows 11 Pro section, select Go to the Store. (If you see "Upgrade your edition of Windows," do not click the "Go to the Store" link for this option)
  3. On the Switch out of S mode (or similar) page, click Get.
