How do I clear storage on my Mac?

An Apple device is prompting that the storage is full and is requesting to clear up some space.

Check the Storage setting in About This Mac, by click on the apple logo on the top left-hand side and selects "About This Mac"

1. There will be a box that pops up and gives a brief overview of the specifications of your device.

2. Select the storage tab, once the page loads it will show you what is taking up most of the storage.

3.  Depending on what is taking up a majority of your space you will be able to clear most of it in a variety of ways.

  • If "images and videos" is taking up most of the storage:
    • you can upload these to your google drive or to an external storage device for safe keeping.
  • If "System" is taking up most of the storage:
    • Check the app store and go to updates, it's possible you may have pending updates that have been downloaded and are taking up a good portion of your space.
  • If "Document" is taking up most of the storage:
    • These can be saved either to an external storage device or uploaded to google drive as well.

Additionally:

- Check your trash folder as you may have items that you have sent to your trash to be deleted. The items may not have been cleared out yet and are taking up space.
