Google Voice is no longer free for Google Workspace for Education users. Beginning March 2019, Google changed their terms of service to no longer allow Google Workspace for Education users to create a free phone number using their education email addresses.
Impact on ACU Users
ACU Google Workspace for Education users can no longer use their @acu.edu email addresses to create Google Voice numbers. Individuals who created a Google Voice phone number with their @acu.edu email addresses prior to this change can continue to use their number indefinitely, according to Google.
Support
Google Voice is not considered a core service and is not supported by the ACU IT or by the vendor, Google. If existing ACU users need support, they will need to reference Google’s support documentation.
Tips
Below are tips for requesting a new phone number based on the type of need:
- Personal: Create a free Google Voice phone number using a personal Gmail account. (Unsupported)
- Work: Request a new phone number for ACU employees or departments.
