How do I map a directory on a server as a network drive?

Tags perez gdrive

This page has instructions for mapping a directory on a server to your computer as a network drive.

Before you can map a drive, you need to be granted access to the directory. See: How do I Get Access to a Network Shared Directory on a Server?

Windows

Note: If you were already logged into your computer when IT granted your access, you may need to log out of Windows, then sign back in before these steps will work.

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Click This PC.
  3. Click the "See more" menu indicated by the three dots icon.
  4. Click Map a network drive.
  5. Specify the drive letter you would like to use for this drive.
  6. Type the file path of the directory. Note the example below the Folder field. Backslash is the one above the Enter/Return key.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. Enter your username and password if prompted.

Mac

  1. Launch Finder.
  2. Click Go in the menu.
  3. Click Connect to Server.
  4. Enter the server address, e.g. smb://perez/itsupport (Note smb: is not actually part of the address; it sets the network protocol used to access the address. The address in this example is //perez/itsupport).
  5. Enter your username and password.
