Faculty and Staff
ACU Information Technology provides a dedicated data backup system for all active Faculty and Staff though a product called CrashPlan. We strongly encourage all employees to continuously ensure that your is consistently backed up. In the event of hardware failure, ACU IT will use your backup to restore data to your computer.
Backup Policy for Client Computers
One CrashPlan license will be provided by Information Technology without charge for each member of faculty and staff, to be used only on ACU-owned client computers. The user will be responsible for ensuring that CrashPlan is backing up.
What are my other backup options?
We also support, for an additional expense, external hard drives and software used for backups. External hard drives and software can be purchased through the Helpdesk. For Windows machines we support the use of Windows 7 and 10 Backup and Restore (free with Windows). For Apple computers we support Apple Time Machine (free). If you need assistance backing up to an external hard drive please contact the Helpdesk or use the "Request Service" button on the right.
Backup Requirements
- CrashPlan requires the use of your non-alias @acu.edu email account.
- The client computer is running one of the following Operating Systems: Windows 7 or Mac OS 10.7.5 or higher.
- Backups can only occur when the computer is connected to the Internet via a wired or wireless network (a wired (Ethernet) connection is much faster).
- The user has placed all files in the user profile which is located in the "Users" folder on both Windows and Mac machines.
- Some file types are excluded: applications, temporary files, hidden files, etc.
Backup Services
- Clients can check if a backup has been performed based on the CrashPlan icon.
- Clients can initiate their own backup and restore at their convenience.
- Information Technology will be assigned to provide client support and respond to all work requests. Priority is given to clients who have failed hard drives.
- Deleted files are available for retrieval from the CrashPlan system for 30 days using the application's restore feature.
